POSITION: Grants Manager FLSA: Exempt Status: Full-Time REPORTS TO: Associate Director, Advancement & Donor Engagement Location: Boston, MA This is a hybrid position, and the candidate must be able to commute to the JVS office in Boston. Position Summary: The Grants Manager is responsible for the creation of grant proposals and related materials that support the JVS Development team’s strategic fundraising goals. The Grants Manager works closely with the Development team, finance department, and programmatic staff throughout the agency to develop compelling proposals in response to solicitations from government and private grant-making organizations. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Grants Manager will work as part of a team within the Development Department who are responsible for increasing, diversifying, and sustaining philanthropic support from foundations, corporations, and government sources. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer, strong communicator, accomplished project manager, and possess meticulous attention to detail. Key Responsibilities: Management of all institutional development materials, including letters of intent, proposals, and compliance reporting using freelance grant writers as needed to meet deadlines. Maintain internal tracking system for all grant deliverables and monitor progress. Collect internal narratives from JVS programmatic staff and set internal deadlines. Shape and rewrite to meet proposal requirements and strategy. Coordinate necessary data collection from the JVS data team, as well as budgets and expenditure reports from the JVS finance team to complete proposals and reports. Research, write, and submit compelling grant concept papers, letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports. Research relevant studies, reports, and statistical data to strengthen agency proposals and funder materials. Manage and oversee freelance grant writers to assist with funder proposals and reports as needed. This includes providing internal information and guidance to grant writers, reviewing drafts and making edits/revisions as needed, as well as setting deadlines and expectations for their work. Research foundation, corporate, and government initiatives to identify a pipeline of prospective funding sources aligned with JVS’s work. Collaborate with the Associate Director to develop grant strategies and priorities for the agency. Write grant award acknowledgment letters and track payments with the JVS finance team. Oversee grant program processes and procedures. Manage institutional giving metrics. Other Duties: Ensure effective administration of grant-related documentation and funder records; including maintenance of grant records in the agency’s Salesforce database and maintenance of a library of boilerplate proposal language. Meet regularly with the Associate Director to review upcoming deadlines, programmatic updates, grant strategy, and Development goals. Support the Associate Director on funding-related projects and stewardship activities as needed. Take initiative to streamline processes and look for ways to make our work more efficient. Seek out opportunities to gain insight into funding trends and new funder initiatives. Contribute to special events and projects as part of the Development team. Participate in Development team staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience At least three years of professional grant writing or grant management experience, or related work in a non-profit Demonstrated aptitude for writing and communicating Strong editing and proofreading skills Knowledge of standard written English, including correct grammar and spelling High level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail Excellent analytical skills Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to grants Ability to work professionally under pressure and meet tight and/or competing deadlines Strong organization, project, and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects Self-starter, ability to work independently Ability to work collaboratively across departments Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information Proficiency with relevant technology (MS Office Suite, Salesforce or similar database, etc.) Knowledge of the local, regional, and national philanthropic communities a plus A passion for JVS’s mission Key Competencies: Instructional planning Instructional delivery Progress reporting /tracking Student skill attainment Promotes Agency Initiative Building Relationships, Collaboration and Teamwork Adapting to Change Accountability and Results Focused Communication Skills Cultural Competency and Respect Planning/Organizing
