Job Title: Fully Remote School-Based Sign Language Interpreter
Location: New Mexico (Remote)
Employment Type: Part-Time 1099 Contract
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for students in a New Mexico school district. The ideal candidate will support deaf and hard-of-hearing students by facilitating effective communication between students, educators, and peers in a virtual educational environment. This is a fully remote role and requires reliable technology and connectivity.
Provide real-time sign language interpretation (primarily ASL) for students during virtual classroom instruction, activities, and meetings.
Interpret a variety of content, including academic subjects, school announcements, and social interactions.
Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and IEP teams to ensure accessibility and equity in educational settings.
Maintain professional and ethical standards in line with RID, EIPA, and state educational guidelines.
Prepare in advance for subject-specific content as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and school district privacy policies.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Valid certification: EIPA (minimum 3.5) andPED Interpreter for the Deaf license.
High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelors degree in interpreting or related field preferred).
Experience working in K-12 educational settings.
Strong technology skills and ability to use virtual platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Preferred:
Experience providing remote/virtual interpreting services.
Knowledge of New Mexico educational policies or willingness to learn.
Familiarity with IEP processes and working with students with diverse learning needs.
100% remote position must have access to a quiet, distraction-free workspace, high-speed internet, and appropriate equipment (computer with webcam, headset, etc.).
